Fully accessible beaches

The fully accessible beaches have full access to the beach, as the wheelchair user is able to get from the beach into the sea moving on a wooden or plastic ramp. There is also availability of hygiene facilities and parking places for disabled persons. It is worth mentioning that on some of these beaches there is an innovative system Seatrac that enables disabled people to have a full access to the sea. It is an automatic system powered by photovoltaic energy, consisting of a seat fixed in a rail that drives the disabled person into the sea at an approximate depth of 60cm. Beaches have Floating Wheelchairs that can be easily moved on the sand and float in the water thanks to their floating armrests and wheels. Seatrac and Floating Wheelchairs are available for use by the public free of charge and relevant information may be obtained by the lifeguards on the beaches.

Partially accessible beaches

The partially accessible beaches are partially accessible, meaning that they have available ramps or pathways leading to some point on the beach but the
access is not extended into the sea. On these beaches there are available
hygiene facilities, parking places for disabled persons.

Panagies Beach in Cyprus

OVERVIEW

An excellent site near a boat marina. In the ‘cosmopolitan’ Pyrgos neighbourhood of the Lemesos (Limassol) region, the beach of Panagies has a touch of glitz, thanks to the boats docked at the adjacent marina, which also shields the sandy beach from south-westerly winds. These shallow, pristine waters are great for families with little children. On the beach, there are restrooms, showers, changing rooms, sun beds, and umbrellas. A huge water sports facility, beach volleyball court, and restaurant are located close to the marina, which has 250 berths and provides comprehensive services. There are accommodations, restaurants, cafes, and kiosks in the general vicinity. From April through October, lifeguards with lifesaving equipment and first aid services are stationed at the beach. Access is convenient by foot, bicycle, bus, or automobile, and parking is provided. The beach also provides access for people with disabilities.

Pissouri Bay, located 30 kilometres west of Lemesos and halfway between Lemesos and Pafos (Paphos), is the hamlet of Pissouri’s tourist destination. The coast’s popularity has skyrocketed due to its breathtaking natural beauty and the presence of resort facilities.

The beach has beautiful, golden sand, small, multicoloured pebbles, and relatively calm, clean waves. It is one of the most scenic coastlines on the island, thanks to the stunning white cliffs of Cape Aspro (Cape ‘white’).

The beach is equipped with restrooms, showers, sunbeds, umbrellas, water sports, and a beach volleyball court. There are five public walkways, two of which are accessible to people with disabilities.

Miami Beach in Cyprus

OVERVIEW

The beach bordered by Akti Olympion and the Crowne Plaza hotel is one of the closest to the city centre, as well as one that offers a variety of options to beachgoers. The expansive sand beach and relatively shallow water create great conditions for beach and aquatic recreation. Because vehicles transporting boats and other water-related equipment can easily access the beach, it is also suited for water sports. The beach itself lacks structured facilities, but nearby kiosks and concession stands provide access to supplies and refreshments.

Dasoudi Beach in Cyprus

OVERVIEW

The Blue Flag-awarded Dasoudi beach is tucked away in a little, one-kilometer-long grove in the midst of Limassol’s tourist district. It is the only beach in Cyprus that, despite its proximity to the city centre, features lush vegetation that extends to the sandy shoreline. The restaurant, which is situated at the easternmost edge of the grove, and the recreational facilities on this coast make it a popular destination for tens of thousands of tourists. The restaurant is open all day for anyone who prefer to enjoy a cool drink or a full meal by the water. Families with young children choose both the beach and the expansive playground adjacent to the restaurant for their children to play.
